A free edible art event in Trafalgar Square is encouraging Londoners to get their teeth into their city by inviting them to take a bite out of London's major landmarks.

Food artist Alicia Rios and architect Barbara Ortiz will be rustling up a miniature map of central London in food form with the help of amateur cooks from across the capital.

The edible map will be divided into sections and will feature major buildings, landmarks, roads and parks.

Once complete, the culinary creations will be taken into serving tents dotted around the Square and members of the public will be invited to tuck in.

The gastronomic architecture on offer will include a coconut and liquorice replica of Marble Arch, a tower of bagels topped with olive and gerkins representing the BT Tower and a gingerbread version of the British Museum.

There'll also be a giant London Eye pizza, a stack of samosas in the shape of Tower Bridge and a model of the Houses of Parliament made from toasted cucumber sandwiches, breadsticks and olives.

Trafalgar Square, Saturday 28 April 2007 from 12.30pm until 4pm. Visit www.liftfest.org.uk for more information.
