A new food market housing 17 food stalls, a cooking academy and four bars is heading to Shoreditch.

The site, which will also feature one shop and an art gallery, will open at 106 Commercial Street during the second half of 2017, at an estimated 19,250 sq ft.

Time Out, the group behind the popular magazine and website, is behind the market.

It will follow the success of a similar ongoing project in Lisbon, which began in 2014 and attracts around two million visitors a year. Time Out announced last week it would be opening a similar project in São Bento train station in Porto, Portugal, and had plans for New York.

Chief executive Julio Bruno said: "This is not only one of the world's most vibrant and exciting cities, but also the birthplace of our iconic brand. Opening a Time Out Market here is an incredible milestone for our brand and our growth strategy."

The London market comes as the Time Out group continues its expansion, following a junior stock market flotation this summer. Time Out began as a London listings magazine in 1968.
