BarChick: Seven, SW9 - review

10 April 2012

Who for? Take a market-loving mate for cocktails, board games and local art.

Vibe? South London's most eclectic dining and drinking destination, Brixton Market, has just added another string to its bow with this place. Sitting across from a shop selling religious artefacts and down the corridor from a fishmonger and a nail-salon, this sneaky little hole-in-the-wall bar has gone for a vintage luggage theme. It's highly original: think luggage tags as menus and spirits sitting in vintage suitcases. Now who doesn't love a bit of luggage?

Best drinks? Cocktails are killer and for five quid you can try the lot. We liked the Bramble - gin and blackberries served in a tea cup with a tiny blueberry muffin, and the Electric Avenue with marmalade, apple vodka, pomegranate juice and sherbet. There's also a small and super-cheap wine list. Opening hours depend on which cleaner is locking up the market so call ahead to check as you don't want to miss out on this place.

Cash or credit card? Cash - cocktails this good are a steal at £5.

Find it: 7 Market Row, SW9. Open 8am until as late as possible (07872 146374, sevenatbrixton.wordpress.com).
