Cartizze - bar review

A Mayfair spin on the Venetian bacaro where you should stick to the simple cocktails, says Kate Lough

The buzz: 'an intimate, Italian influenced Bellini and cocktail destination in a sumptuous art deco setting'.

The deal: Cartizze has jumped on the Venetian bacaro bandwagon and put a Mayfair spin on it. Dark and sultry though the bar is, we couldn’t help wishing it had some outdoor table space to mop up the evening sun that was streaming down the cobbled mews. Cartizze wants to be known for its unusual signature cocktails like the olive oil Gin Fizz (which was quite frankly, a bit oily) but we were more into the simpler stuff.

Order: the rhubarb Bellini slipped down rather too easily but our resounding favourite was the Sicilian Gimlet: blood-orange gin, blood orange and lemon cordial.

Good for: Mayfair types and dates.

By the way: if you’re peckish order some pane e pomodoro and the figs wrapped in San Daniele ham.
