Craft your own beer at pop-up guerrilla brewery UBREW

The UBREW “guerrilla brewery” will be set up on the Bermondsey Mile, known for its microbreweries and pubs serving craft beers, during London Beer Week in February.

Enthusiasts can sign up to become a UBREW member and then use the space, ingredients and equipment to create a drink either for personal use or for commercial sale.

As a community group UBREW already has more than 300 paying members, with about 100 people backing the company through its Crowdfunding campaign. Membership starts from £40 a month for 12 months while a course from a master brewer normally costs £85.

The company has been set up by friends and home brewers Matthew Denham, 30, and Wilf Horsfall, 27. Mr Denham, who lives in Hampstead, said he hoped both novices and more established home brewers would use the “guerrilla brewery” during London Beer Week, which runs between February 16-22.

He said: “Home brewing is more popular than ever — I think people are inspired by craft beers in pubs and want to try it themselves. Through the guerrilla brewery, we hope to inspire people to get brewing. We also want to generate further awareness in brewing and help launch the next Brewdog or similar brands.”
