The Glenmorangie Beyond The Cask bar is making a return to Soho this week, bringing together cocktails, tasting sessions and rare whiskies from Thursday March 3 until Saturday March 12.

As well as offering enthusiasts the chance to drink their way through practically the whole Glenmorangie range — including some extremely rare options — it will showcase the whisky through some specially designed cocktails.

It builds on the success of a similar pop-up last year, but this comes with a particular focus on barrels, the wood they are made from and how this affects the flavour of the end result.

While the main bar offers nine drams from just £4 a go, a separate area called The Vault comes with more exclusive options for those who want to explore further.

Here there are food and whisky pairings, tastings of Glenmorangie’s extra matured Prestige Range, and some very special old whiskies available by the dram — it will be the only place in the world that Glenmorangie 1963 will be served.

That particular offering will set you back £180 a glass, but a flight of three 12 year old whiskies each finished in different types of European Oak costs a much more reasonable tenner.

Glenmorangie’s head of distilling, Dr Bill Lumsden, said of the bar: “Some people take malt whisky very seriously, but really it should be about fun and having a bar in the middle of Soho is a way for us to show that. Years ago we weren’t so relaxed about using our whisky for cocktails, for example, but now we are proud to say we are and if done correctly the whisky isn’t overpowered.”

As part of the pop-up, Glenmorangie has also partnered with Finlay & Co to create a limited edition range of sunglasses made from whisky barrels — in fact, if you try hard, you can just about smell the whisky on them. These cost £300 and are available here.

The company’s co-founder Dave Lockhead said: “Making the glasses is a complex 16-stage process, but that’s what makes this partnership relevant — in terms of both brands it is about going the extra mile.”

The Glenmorangie Beyond The Cask bar will be open at 15 Bateman Street from 5pm-11pm throughout its run. Note that it is closed on Sunday 6 March.
