Owners reverse decline at Island Queen

Island Queen: Features an excellent beer line-up
10 April 2012

Once again, after a long period in the wilderness, the Island Queen is a pub we at Fancyapint? can heartily recommend. The owners of this fabulous old place have taken the time, care and patience to reverse the decline of recent years and make it a pub to be proud of.

The beer line-up is excellent: Pride, Landlord and Deuchars on the hand pumps, with Kolsch, Fruli, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Staropramen and de Konninck all on draft.

The wine list is pretty decent and the food is worth visiting for - we especially like the fish and chip Friday thing (although can we have proper chips, not "hand cut wedges", please?).

The pool table has gone, to be replaced with much needed extra seating, which is lucky as the pub's popularity is fast making it tricky to find a seat at the usual times.

The much-loved papier-mache political caricatures of old may be long gone, but the spirit of the old Island Queen is back with us again, Cheers!
