If you’re staying up for the results, at least have some fun with it. Lockdown 2.0 is an excuse to restock the booze cupboard and WFH means you can be flexible with your hours tomorrow morning - just make sure you warn the boss in advance.

From Trumped-up cocktails to the buzzwords to look out for, this is your election night drinking game guide.

Red or blue

The most straightforward of election night drinking games: pick a side and drink to it — sip every time your Republican or Democrat tribe wins a state.

To fully get into the spirit, match your drink to your side; berry cider or Merlot for Republican, and expect things to get fizzy if you’re a Biden drinker, with old-school WKD.

Word up

A fun one for catchphrase kids. Write a list of election night buzzwords, then drink every time you hear them. Some suggestions: neck and neck, electoral college, swing state, voter turnout and unprecedented times.

Spot the scene

The same game but for scenes instead of words. Some of the most popular: shots from a polling station, a news anchor dancing around a map of states, anyone in the background when they realise they’re on camera.

Drink up

For those keen to clear out the booze cabinet: everyone pick a BNOEN (big name on election night) and mix a character cocktail. Some suggestions: a Covfefe Martini (Trump), a Dark and Stormy Daniels (Trump again) or a Sloppy Joe (Biden).

For something neutral, try a Suffering Bastard.

Truth or dare

The simplest of drinking games is all about the build-up. Write down a dare you’d only consider doing after too many Trump-tails, then swap with the person next to you. Everyone has to do it if Kanye West wins.
