Critic's choice: Top five clubs

10 April 2012

This weekend's best club offerings include the launch of hotly-tipped grime star Tinchy Stryder's album at Dirty Canvas.

Dirty Canvas
93 Feet East, E1

Fancy a bit of grime and dubstep in a non-scary environment, mixed with a little bit of rave? You've come to the right place. Hotly-tipped grime star Tinchy Stryder launches his debut album tonight with a live set, while godfather of grime Wiley also puts in an appearance. DJs include Coconut Twins, Styleslut and, for some reason, Peaches Geldof. (020 7247 3293). Tonight, 9pm-1am.

Ceilidh Club
Cecil Sharp House, NW1

No drunks, no druggies, no scary bouncers, no dodgy taxis afterwards. It's almost unrecognisable as a club. Except for the fact that you'll dance the night away and end up happy and sweaty. With a friendly, inclusive atmosphere and plenty of help on hand for beginners, Scottish country dancing has never been so much fun. (020 7485 2206). Tonight, 7.15pm-11pm.

Club Azuli
The Cross, N1

With a strong reputation for their Friday parties at Space in Ibiza, Azuli have become a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. There's an Antipodean theme to this night, with a set from top Aussie dance masters, Dirty South. There's also a live set from Sydney's Vandalism and some eclectic turntable action from the Streetlife DJs. (020 7837 0828), Sat 18 Aug, 10pm-6am.

Circo Loco
The End, WC1

More Balearic-themed dancefloor antics are in store as Ibiza's nuttiest party takes over The End. DC10 resident Tania Vulcano headlines, playing tough, tribal house. Also bringing the Ibiza flavour are Mirco Loco, Fabrizio and Shane Watcha. Secretsundaze, meanwhile, are taking over AKA. (020 7419 9199), Sat 18 Aug, 11pm-7am.

Feeling Gloomy
Bar Academy, N1

Those misery-mongers are back, with another party devoted to the ironic celebration of unhappiness. The tunes can come from any era, as long as they have a sorrowful element to them. As always, The Miserabilists are on hand to provide a suitably downbeat air guitar accompaniment. (020 7288 4400), Sat 18 Aug, 10pm-4am.
