Cottons Camden, review: Caribbean sunshine (with lashings of rum)

You'll get your Carribean comfort food, but rum rules the roost
Caribbean comfort food at Cottons

There’s nothing to get the Caribbean party going like lashings of rum – at Cottons & Rhum Shack, there’s an ocean of it.

The Notting Hill branch of Cottons is the Guinness World Record holder for having the most rums on offer in one place – all 372 of them. Yep, three hundred and seventy two. We don’t recommend trying all of them in one visit (or even in ten) but the astounding selection makes for a gleeful prospect for even the most seasoned rum connoisseurs.

Cottons has been serving up Caribbean sunshine for over 30 years, with the first of four restaurants opening in Camden in 1985. Bountifully stocked bars and island-inspired comfort food is the name of the game, with spice soaked meats their best offerings. Kick off your meal with sweet and succulent jerk pork ribs – if you’re a jerk sauce fan, Cottons’ offerings come with buckets of it.

Follow up with their classic curried mutton, meat falling off the bone with ease. The portions are spectacularly ample, but if you do find yourself craving a little something else, mop up your mutton with their fabulously fluffy roti and a side of plantains is positively obligatory.
