Whether you love it or hate it, you simply can’t deny how iconic the Marmite brand is.

Quintessentially British, the jar has become synonymous with teatime, toast and crumpets and now you can get it in 18ct gold - yes, really.

The brand has created this one-off gilded item to honour its Marmite-loving fans, following recent research from one of the UK’s leading genetics labs, DNAFit. The study unveiled that Brits are genetically predisposed to loving or hating Marmite.

The plated, engraved jar weighs 498g1 and according to the valuators, Boningtons Auctioneers, it’s reportedly worth a casual £1,500.

To win the collector's item, Marmite are asking you to download the augmented reality games app, Snatch, and follow the treasure hunt. The competition is open until 11 February.

The good news is, if you don’t win the top prize, there are also 1,000 personalised Marmite jars up for grabs and if you’re happy to part with £145 you can always buy the jars with gold lids up until the 28 February.
