An ice cream mochi bar has opened in London

Because what’s not to like about Japanese frozen balls?
Bright balls: Mochi from Little Moons
Ben Norum13 March 2017

Mochi are a Japanese pudding staple. The often brightly-coloured rice balls filled with ice cream or bean paste are pretty much a religion back in Japan and now these cold treats look set to become the capital’s hottest new trend.

They have been available in select spots around London previously but now fans can enjoy a new frontier of rice ball pleasure with the arrival of the country’s first dedicated self-service mochi ice cream bar in Kensington.

Little Moons, which has just launched at Whole Foods, has set up a counter allowing sweet-seekers to pick their own selection of flavours to either skewer in sets of three for easy eating or pack into a bigger box to take home (or scoff).

The selection of 10 flavours includes toasted sesame, mango, matcha, vanilla and salted caramel.

With spring settling in, it’s clearly time to get selecting and skewering — these frozen Japanese balls are on a roll.
