Breddos Soho: London’s top tacos hit the West End

A vibrant setting, good-time vibes and the top tacos in town as Breddos come to Carnaby

There’s no stopping the Breddos bandwagon. After starting out cooking tacos in a Hackney carpark during the early days of London’s street food scene, founders Nud Dudhia and Chris Whitney racked up the residencies before going from pop-up to permanent with the launch of a fully-fledged Clerkenwell restaurant in 2016.

Barely a year down the line, they’ve returned for more with a new restaurant double the size - and a subterranean margarita bar to boot - in the heart of Soho.

Expect more of the same, along with some new dishes for good measure. Think crisp totopos with a fondue-esque melted cheese dip, fat grilled prawns with a garlic salsa, grilled spice-rubbed octopus by the half or quarter, sprightly lime driven sea bass ceviche, and crab and bone marrow nachos which are less nachos and more dip but decadently, deliciously rich all the same.

Then, of course, there’s the tacos - they’re what Breddos does best, and you’d be hard pushed to find somewhere that does them better. Soft, pillowy rounds of warm tortilla come varyingly stuffed with crisp-battered baja fish and enlivening salsa; juicy, slow-cooked lamb shoulder; and moist habanero-laced fried chicken.

Feast for the senses: Breddos has arrived on Kingly Street

The setting is just as vibrant. From the latin music to the bright Mexicana design and upbeat, tequila-touting staff, good-time vibes are as abundant as the chilli and coriander.

This is especially true of the downstairs bar where numerous margaritas share space with top shelf mezcals on a makeshift menu painted graffiti-style on the wall.

Sip it don’t shoot it, and be prepared for one drink to turn into a margarita marathon - it’s just that kind of a place.
