Caravan Bankside: Much more than just coffee

Coffee, cocktails and global-minded food mingle at this roastery-turned-restaurant group
Ailis Brennan13 December 2017

As you’d expect from the name, Caravan’s food is pretty well-travelled. Once you’re locked in by the whiff of freshly roasted coffee, you’re invited to stay all day. From dawn til dusk (and a little later this time of year) Caravan serves up a little bit of everything from almost everywhere: a breakfast of jalapeno cornbread with tomatillo salsa, smoked pimenton cotija and fried eggs, can be followed up any time of day with chaat masala braised oxtail with amchoor yoghurt, chilli and crispy shallots and a pumpkin seed matcha cheesecake.
Caravan has been making its way around London too. From humble neighbourhood origins in Exmouth Market, Caravan went on to jump start the foodie influx into revamped King’s Cross, before setting up camp in Bankside and the City too. The food is hearty and varied – from small plate for sharers and large dishes for plate protectors – all in industrial chic settings that range from cosy to cavernous. If you stick around from breakfast til late, the cocktail list is worth the wait.
