Critic's choice: Where to order chips

10 April 2012

You may have started the New Year with good intentions but if you're fed up salads and smoothies, Charles Campion reveals where to ditch the detox and tuck in to some top-notch fries...

L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon
13-15 West Street, WC2
The French superstar chef has several Ateliers scattered across the world; at West Street he offers mini-burgers with very good crinkle cut chips (almost like corkscrews). Merciless bill. £50pp ex-drinks. (020 7010 8600)

Fryer's Delight
19 Theobald's Road, WC1
This institution is possibly the last fish and chip shop in London that still fries in dripping. As a consequence the chips are absolutely top notch - and the fish is not bad either. £6 pp ex-drinks. (020 7405 4114)

Rivington
28-30 Rivington Street, EC2
At the Rivvy they have an admirable attitude to food and drink. Dishes are British, ingredients are painstakingly sourced, menus are seasonal. They do very fine chips. £30 pp ex-drinks. (020 7729 7053)
