Luxury: a grilled half lobster in L’Escargot.
Fay Maschler13 January 2016

1. After the launch of Gerad Kite’s crucial book Everything You Need You Have: How to be at Home in Your Self (buy it), a grilled half lobster in the voluptuous calm of L’Escargot.

2. Lunch at Sushi Masa, which has followed Sushi Say in Walm Lane; flabby sashimi signals a lacklustre replacement.

3. Romy Gill’s “Spice Trail” is at Carousel until January 16. Bengali Romy from north-east India rejoices in produce from the West Country. One delectable result is spicy white poppy seed tikki with onions, roasted squash and date chutney.

4. Fabulous salt beef at The Brass Rail in Selfridges marred by inept serving systems and undrinkable espresso.

5. Corbin and King’s new Bellanger in Islington is the perfect venue for a modern family get-together of ex-husband Tom Maschler, husband Reg Gadney and me. A shared coq au Riesling brilliantly papers over cracks.
