First look: Coya opens in the City

Coya heads to the City for its second London site

From this week Mayfair Peruvian restaurant Coya has a sibling, with the launch of Coya Angel Court near Bank.

Overseen by executive chef Sanjay Dwivedi, the new restaurant will once again combine traditional elements of Peruvian cuisine with European cooking techniques, while its colourful bar the Pisco Lounge will serve an exhaustive list of wines, spirits and cocktails as well as focusing on Peru’s national drink.

Both spaces will be filled with art, trinkets and decorations sourced directly from Peru.

Unique to this second site will be a hand-carved ‘rum round table’ available for guests to enjoy a bottle of rum throughout their visit, while the walls will be decked out in Peruvian art.

Coya co-founder and director Adam Bel Hadj said: “We have a lot of guests from the City coming to Coya Mayfair during the weekend as they love the food and the venue. During the week the population from the City and Mayfair are very segregated. It appeared to us that the City during the week had a demand for our concept especially because there has been very little new on offer in this market.”

He added: “We definitely think that Brexit is having and will have an impact on business in the City but we also believe that the area will always be a major centre for business and the residential market is developing very fast.”
