Five things Fay Maschler ate this week

Our restaurant critic has breakfast at the Delaunay and giant prawns at Fino
20 March 2013

1 Gravlax with salad and tartine of toasted pain Poilâne topped with Montbéliarde sausage, Morbier cheese and shallot confit to accompany glasses of grower champagnes at the engaging Champagne + Fromage in Covent Garden.

2 On BA2667 from Marrakech, “Real Food Hand-Crafted” was the legend on Hoisin Duck Wrap where, among a multitude of ingredients, were listed diphosphates, sodium carbonates, malic acid, mono and diglycerides and L-cysteine.

3 Perky breakfast of Greek yogurt, granola and banana at The Delaunay.

4 Carabineros (huge prawns) — the name invoked by their shiny scarlet shells — one course in a parade of diversion and delectability celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fino.

5 The best beef, left, I have ever eaten and probably ever will — bistecca alla Fiorentina lovingly served at La Mongolfiera Dei Sodi in Franciacorta near Brescia, where I was tasting impressive Bellavista and Contadi Castaldi wines.
