Gökyüzü Chingford: With these kebabs, the sky’s the limit

If you’re craving a kebab or pining for a pide, there is one corner of London that is most certainly calling. Haringey is the home of London’s Turkish food scene, with Green Lanes providing pasture upon pasture of authentic fare.

Of all the many, many Turkish restaurants on the strip, Gökyüzü (the work for "sky" in Turkish) is perhaps the popular – if you haven’t booked ahead, you’ll be hard pushed to walk straight to a table on any day of the week.

The Yazuv family have been serving hungry Turkophiles since 1999, and their charcoals show no signs of cooling, having now spread their wings to Chingford, with plans to soon add sites in Walthamstow and Finchley to the family.

As you would hope, a great deal of grilled meat is on the menu, from you staple shishes and doners, to grilled quail and a plethora of special dishes featuring a Sarma Kuzu Beyti of marinated minced lamb wrapped in lavash bread and cheese.

If you’re not feeling the full carnivore, Gökyüzü also have an extensive pide menu – think pizza, but Turkish – with toppings ranging from halloumi, olives and green pepper, to minced lamb, spinach and red onion. Remember the portions are as vast as the menu – at Gökyüzü, the sky’s the limit.
