Homeslice Pizza: Fun, frugal and fantastic pizza

Some off-the-wall toppings may put off purists - or Italians - but clever combos and a blistering hot oven ensure the end results really do work.

This buzzy pizzeria group first launched in Covent Garden’s Neal’s Yard in 2013, and has steadily rolled out the concept - and the dough - since.

The restaurants are cheerful and characterful, on-trend but not nauseatingly so. There are iPad Minis for taking orders and a mood-boosting soundtrack made up of funk, soul and disco.

Pizza-wise, you can either eat it by the mega slice (a 20-incher to share between two or three people) or a “half and half” 20-inch of two flavours of your choice.

Some off-the-wall toppings may put off purists - or Italians - but clever combos and a blistering hot oven ensure the end results really do work. Look out for sopressata and rocket, caprese and smoked trout with baby beets and goats’ curd, or even a combo of duck and Szechuan pineapple which has been described as “socially acceptable Hawaiian”.

The margarita is the ultimate test, and the one here passes with flying colours thanks to a thin and crusty base, ripe tasting tomato and oozy, creamy mozzarella.

Feast away while working your way through the oversized bottle of red placed on every table - don’t worry, you only pay for what you drink of it.
