Hunan: Who knows what you'll eat? Mr Peng does

At Hunan, there's no menu – you just have to trust Mr Peng

We would love to tell you what you’ll eat at Hunan, but I’m afraid only Mr Peng knows. The near-daily changing menu is under the Head Chef’s jurisdiction, and you get even less say in it that usual. There might be a menu, but if there is, you’re instructed not to let it trouble you, as Hunan have pretty much decided what you’re having.

What we know you can expect is many, many plates of food – usually in excess of 10, and potentially significantly more. You tell Mr Peng's waiting staff how much you want to pay, and they feed you accordingly. We know that if you like it hot, Mr Peng will give it to you hot – the Hunan province (after which, you can guess, the restaurant is named) follows in the same vein as the Sichuan penchant for chilli by the bucketload. Hunan (the restaurant) also does a good line in Taiwanese style food.

Most importantly, we know that you can expect the food to be very, very good.
