Mac & Wild: For the love of the game

A showcase of Scottish produce, with Highland hospitality to match
Ben Norum1 December 2017

Scotland isn’t the first country that comes to mind when you think of the world’s finest cuisines, but Mac & Wild puts forward a compelling argument that maybe it should be.

Produce is the focus here, and when you think about all the wonderful things that the Scots do best it makes Mac & Wild well worth a visit. That’s beef, game and whisky, with some impassioned Highland hospitality to boot.

From the snacks department (“wee plates”) the lollipop-a-like Haggis Pops are a highlight, while starters include a stellar venison tartare and the haggis mac and cheese is another indulgent treat.

Chateaubriand of either beef or venison can be ordered by the 100g as a main, and the by now legendary veni-moo burger (made with a beef patty and a venison patty) has been lauded with acclaim for good reason - pink-fleshed, juicy, full-flavoured and worth getting messy for.
As for whisky, there is an extensive list of single malt picks with a few decent blends listed for good measure. The list is long enough anyone unconvinced by Scotch could have their mind changed, but not so long it veers into anorak territory.

For a hardcore start to the day, don’t miss the Scottish Buckie Royale - a mix of Buckfast and Prosecco.
