Best for family pizza: Four Hundred Rabbits

From the folks who brought us Brixton’s Lido Café comes a new sourdough pizza place. As well as plenty of classics, the chefs get inventive with toppings — right now you can expect shredded sprouts to make an appearance, paired with smoked pig’s cheeks and poacher cheese, tomato and mozzarella (£9.50).

Best for American sides Crab: Crab Tavern

Crab Tavern is doing a seasonal special that’s perfect for anyone hankering after Southern-style Thanksgiving/Christmas fare — bucket-fried turkey with sprouts, roast potatoes, crispy okra, corn bread, cranberry and gravy (£16.95). Or snuggle up on Broadgate Circle’s winter terrace, which is shared by all its restaurants.

Best for clever pub food: The Tommy Tucker

There are few foods that don’t benefit from being wrapped in tempura batter and fried. I love sprouts in all their forms — raw, sautéed, boiled or steamed, anything as long as they’re not mushy — but turning them and their tops into crunchy Christmas nibbles and serving them with candied walnuts (£4.50) is little short of genius.
