Where does food end and art begin?

To answer that tantalising query, luxury hotel Rosewood London have teamed up with the British Museum to create an afternoon tea menu inspired by the ground-breaking sculptural work of artist Auguste Rodin.

The menu, which includes desserts designed by executive pastry chef Mark Perkins, will be available at the Mirror Room from April 26 to July 29 2018, running throughout the duration of the British Museum’s Rodin and the Art of Ancient Greece exhibition.

After tucking into a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and pastries inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs Du Mal – a poetry volume illustrated by Rodin himself – diners can artistically indulge in three desserts inspired by some of the sculptor’s most famous works.

Perkins’ version of The Thinker features the iconic silhouette of the contemplative male nude on a white chocolate slither, resting against a pillar of Earl Grey mousse and chocolate sponge.

The two lovers in The Kiss are immortalised with intertwined chocolate shards on top of a marble glazed mousse, white chocolate joconde sponge and an orb of raspberry and rose jelly, while The Age of Bronze is represented by a caramel crème brûlée wrapped inside a chocolate nut coating finished to look like aged bronze.

The all-important tea will be provided by French connoisseurs Mariage Frères, who have selected a tea pairing menu to match each stage of the meal, and all will be served on tableware designed by Studio Appetit, who have partnered with the hotel in producing the design concept.

The Rodin tea follows on from Rosewood London’s Art Lover’s Tea which celebrated the works of modern and contemporary artists including Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Wassily Kandinsky, Banksy and Jackson Pollock.
