Sandwich Fest: Thorough-bread line-up for London’s inaugural sandwich festival
A festival devoted to the best things between sliced bread is coming to the capital after raising more than £2000 through crowdfunding.
London Sandwich Fest, which will take place on May 20 to mark British Sandwich Week, will see top London restaurants and street food stalls come together in Hackney to celebrate the humble British classic.
There will be stalls selling one-off sandwich creations and a vote to find the best sandwich at the event, plus live music and drinks from local brewery Five Points.

Those taking part include Grill My Cheese, which will make a new toastie for the occasion; Deeney’s, whipping up a haggis-related sandwich; and Spanish food group Brindisa, which will be creating an updated version of its famous Borough Market chorizo roll.
Le Bao, Project Sandwich and The Piadina Project will also partake.
The offering will include British, Spanish, Italian, Cuban and Taiwanese-influenced sandwiches, as well as ice cream sandwiches for pudding.
Founder Dan Bell, who previously worked on food festivals including Taste of London, said: “There’s a surge of top street food traders and restaurants offering incredible sandwiches in London. I want to bring them together to show how great a sandwich can be.”
The festival will take place at SPACE Gallery Courtyard in Hackney. It will run across two sessions: 12-4.30pm and 5-10pm. Tickets for either session cost £9 and include a taster sandwich and a beer.
