Soho's Alphabet bar to reopen at new Islington venue after five years of closure

Alphabet bounces back: The bar returns with a new Mediterranean-inspired menu

After five years of closure, a formerly much-loved Soho haunt is coming back to life, albeit in a different place.

The Alphabet bar, most famous in the 90s as a hub for media types, closed its Beak Street site in 2013 but will reopen at a brand new Upper Street location in Islington this August. There's no word whether the famously rude bar staff will be rehired as well.

The new bar and restaurant will boast a menu of sharing plates developed by head chef Yaz Khadiri.

Khadiri has designed the food around his childhood memories of food in Morocco, combined with Mediterranean flavours. New dishes include a cumin zaalouk salad, beetroot hummus, marinated lamb kebabs with harissa yoghurt and flatbreads.

As well as beers, wines and spirits the new bar will offer a generous cocktail menu featuring 26 cocktails created by award-winning bartender Chris Edwards of the Shrub & Shutter and First Aid Box.

The new Alphabet will also offer weekend brunch menu and cocktails including a paprika-infused Bloody Mary.
