Street Feast at Hawker House - review

Head to Haggerston for a lively, chilli-infused night of London's best street food with the return of the ever-popular Street Feast, says Pippa Bailey

What they say: A night-time indoor food market, arranged across three levels (I’m informed that they're levels, not floors, because levels are cooler), offering delicious fare from some of London’s finest food trucks and street food vendors, plus craft beers, pint-sized cocktails and a DJ.

What we say: Street Feast is an energetic, chilli-infused foodie destination that draws an eclectic crowd prepared to shout over the music and fight for a place to perch (not one for an intimate date, we feel). The lower levels have a more industrial feel, with unfinished concrete floors and string lights, while the third tier has a cosier ‘sit back with a glass of vino’ vibe with sofas and candles.

Order:

You’re in for a serious case of food FOMO here. Highlights were the crab roll at Bob’s Lobster (grilled brioche stuffed with fresh crab and lemon juice) and Breddos' Baja fish taco with lime aioli and jalapenos. Wash it all down with Milk & Honey favourite Pencillin — Compass Box scotch, lemon, honey and ginger — for an immediate booze hit or, for something a little lighter and sweeter, the Florodora: gin, raspberries, ginger, lime and soda. A cup of warm Kraken black spiced rum and apple from the Rotary Bar went a way to easing my sore throat, too.

Good for: Hungry revellers after a relaxed Friday night or fussy groups of friends who can never agree on a restaurant. We even spotted a couple of kids, eagerly eyeing up the hotdog offering at Dogtown.

Fun and games: whisky hopefuls spin the roulette wheel (Picture: The Gaztronome)

By the way: If you’re a whisky drinker, head straight for the third level where you’ll find a game of whisky roulette: £8 a spin to win one of 50 different shots worth between £8 and £40.
