Clapham’s The Dairy was among the big winners at last night’s Young British Foodies awards held in Knightsbridge.

Its head chef Richard Falk saw off competition from restaurants including Hackney’s Pidgin and Marylebone’s Carousel to win in the chef category while its sister restaurant Paradise Garage triumphed in the front of house category thanks to General Manager Claire Wright.

Other winners in the awards — which aim to shine a light on the people pushing the country’s food and drink scene forward — included The Clove Club’s bar chef Rob Simpson in the alcohol category and Freddie Janssen of F.A.T. London in the street food category.

Hackney-based preserve-makers Newton & Pott won in the vegetable category, while awards also went to Polka Pants, who make tailored chef trousers for women, and food writers and bloggers George Reynolds and Izy Hossack.

Out of London, awards went to Glasgow’s Cottonrake Bakery, Oxfordshire’s Kingstone Dairy and Devon-based goat farm Cabrito.
