The Shrub and Shutter: the bar that changed Brixton

Pre Shrub and Shutter, this list might not exist; rumours floated about of cocktails in Brixton but drinkers wandering the streets would have found scant evidence. In 2014, when this place opened, bringing expertly crafted drinks and matched plates to Coldharbour Lane, it was all in stark contrast to everything around it. Inevitably, arguments about gentrification followed, but there’s little denying that S & S serves the best drinks of anywhere in its neighbourhood. Staff are always friendly and it’s somewhere fun to be, having managed to hold onto a feeling of being a bar your mates clobbered together.
