A fresh masterplan: new Thames bridge planned linking revamped Canada Water to Canary Wharf

Be well-connected in a new waterfront neighbourhood in east London.

In the old docks district of Rotherhithe, a fresh masterplan has paved the way for a lively waterfront neighbourhood with 3,500 new homes, offices, shops, cafés and restaurants, a three-and-a-half-acre park, an art house cinema and a King’s College London campus.

Crucially, the architecture is of a higher quality than the first wave of regeneration 30 years ago.

A new town centre is forming around Canada Water, beneficiary of a Zone 2 Jubilee line station giving quick east-west connections.

The station is also a key interchange on the Overground network, while a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Thames to Canary Wharf is on the horizon.

A new pedestrianised boulevard will run between Canada Water and Surrey Quays train stations, and an eye-catching new library at Canada Water is already open.

The latest residential launch is a 95-flat scheme at Quebec Way. Developer London Square has opted for a tasteful design of lattice-effect external brickwork with recessed balconies and roof terraces.
