Here is heaven for embroidery buffs, who can take a guided tour of more than 100 pieces of exquisite needlework in an abundance of different threads and stitches.

The theme is peacocks and pomegranates, popular embroidery motifs throughout stitching history.

Pride of place goes to the peacock in a pomegranate tree from a screen, pictured, by Arts and Crafts artist Walter Crane.

Now until July 22; Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, KT8. Booking essential at £16 per person for a guided tour or £22 for a curator’s tour.
