Twenty years ago, JK Rowling unleashed the magic of Hogwarts upon the world with the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Every child (and plenty of adults) longed to study at the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a spellbinding Medieval castle with towers, turrets, dungeons, a loch, a forest, an owlery, extensive grounds and, of course, a Quidditch pitch.

Hogwarts is hidden in the depths of the Scottish Highlands but it cannot be found on a map. If Muggles approach it, it appears as an abandoned castle they are advised to steer clear of.

To celebrate the anniversary of all things Potter, we scouted out some of the best Hogwarts-style homes on the market that could secretly be the real deal.

Flick through the gallery above for our favourite castles for sale, so that you can entertain the idea of living there despite still waiting for an owl to deliver your acceptance letter.
