Now in their 32nd year, the Evening Standard New Homes Awards recognise, celebrate and commend innovation and excellence in today’s new homes.

Global events remain tumultuous and it’s been a more trying year than any of us could have predicted.

At least you can count on one inevitability, however, and that is that London is a property-obsessed city.

The financial advantages of being a homeowner are long-accepted, but they’re now at least matched, if not surpassed, by other, less tangible benefits around health and well-being, green space and quality time.

Workspace, nature, safety and good looks are all essentials now, as — at last — is energy efficiency.

It’s no longer just inconvenient to live in a leaky, cold, and badly maintained building, it’s also ruinously expensive. And once buyers are hit where it really hurts (their wallets) those nice-to-haves become must-haves.

As an industry, house builders have no excuse not to respond, but now they also have an incentive.

The awards are judged by an independent panel of property experts who will be looking for homes and developments that mark the very best in modern housebuilding.

There are 16 categories in all, encompassing the whole new-build market, from first-time buyer flats to luxurious mansions; from eco-homes to those with outstanding architectural merit, and from boutique apartment projects to large-scale regeneration schemes.

Refurbishment projects qualify as well as new builds, including the retirement living sector.

With more first-time buyers trying to get a foothold on the ladder, we welcome entries from housing associations and affordable housing initiatives.

All entrants showcase their schemes with top-quality imagery and clear descriptions, share their architectural vision and talk about the challenges they have overcome along the way.

Winners will be announced at a glittering luncheon at The Dorchester Hotel, on Friday 29 September 2023.
