44% of commuters hit by bank fraud

Almost half of all London commuters have suffered from bank fraud or had their identity stolen, a new study has found.

Researchers questioned 1,000 and found that an average of £1,448 had been stolen from each person. Some 44 per cent had suffered bank fraud, while 42 per cent have had their identity stolen.

Victims say online shopping was the biggest cause, followed by shops "cloning" their card.

Experts said the figures show how quickly criminals have adapted to committing fraud online.

Claire Sellick, of Infosecurity Europe, which commissioned the study, said people were being easily duped by offers too good to miss and email phishing scams.
