Albert Hall turns Thai for Lost star's King And I

Debut: Daniel Dae Kim from Lost

THE Royal Albert Hall is to be transformed into old Siam for a production of The King And I starring Daniel Dae Kim from the television show Lost.

Kim, who was born in South Korea and grew up in America, will appear as the king. Maria Friedman, star of London musicals from Chicago to Woman In White, plays the English governess who comes to teach his children in 19th century Thailand.

They are the parts famously played by Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr in the 1956 film.

The show, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, will play for just 20 performances from 12-28 June next year.

It is the latest in impresario Raymond Gubbay's colourful productions at the Albert Hall, which he has previously transformed into Japan for Madame Butterfly and the deep south of America for Showboat.

Mr Gubbay said: "It will be a spectacle."
