Alexandra Palace turns orange for 2012

12 April 2012

Alexandra Palace is to be decorated orange for London 2012 after Dutch Olympic chiefs chose it as their party venue.

The north London landmark will play host to athletes, VIPs and other revellers. Members of the public will pay an entry fee.

Sponsored by the national brewer, "Heineken House" showcases Dutch culture and achievements in a beer hall environment. Established at the 1992 Barcelona Games, it has earned the Dutch the reputation of being the Olympics' leading party nation. The 10,000-capacity Great Hall will be converted into a giant beer hall.

Alexandra Palace managing director Rebecca Kane said: "Dutch visitors will undoubtedly enjoy its stunning panoramic views of London's best-loved landmarks old and new."

London party venues are being snapped up by Olympic nations and sponsors. France has signed with Old Billingsgate market, Germany will be at the Museum of London in the Docklands. Russia is in talks to convert Marble Arch into a party venue.
