12 April 2012

Single women who find it hard to go to sleep alone at night need fret no longer.

A pair of enterprising Brits are selling a pillow made in the shape of a boyfriend's arm, which can hug a lady all night without snoring or stealing the sheets.

The Japanese invention has been a huge hit with singletons in the Far East, and business partners Clare Thomas and Angus Macaulay snapped up the chance to sell the popular product in Europe.

Mrs Thomas, a 48-year-old businesswomen from Dundee, said: "I read about them online and how they were very popular in Japan. My husband travels a lot with his job and I thought, 'I could do with one of those'.

"I thought that if I would like one of these, so would many others. It is always really nice to have something to cuddle into."

The enterprising pair set the Pillow Partners company and sell the pillow in blue, green, pink and yellow cotton shirt covers. They will soon be bringing out a new range dressed in football team colours.

"Business is hotting up and are especially popular for people looking for something for Valentine's Day," Mrs Thomas said.

"Initially, I thought it would be for people who were divorced, separated or widowed, but in actual fact, going by sales, there has been a lot of guys buying for their partners, because they are away on business or are in the armed forces.

"It could be used for the occasional night when you are alone, or it could be used every night."

Clare Thomas is keen to bring the joys of the Boyfriend Arm Pillow to Britain

Tomoki Kakehashi, president of the pillow's manufacturer's Kameo, came up with the idea after his grandmother said there was no more comfortable pillow than a human.

The pillow is being sold for £34.95 and has a number of benefits according to the pillow partners website. It doesn't come in drunk, snore, steal the sheets or wake you up.

But you may find the pillow talk somewhat one sided.
