Ambulance service HQ hit by blaze

12 April 2012

The London Ambulance Service was forced to move its control centre to a back-up site today after a blaze broke out at its headquarters.

Staff had to leave the main site in Lambeth and move to Bow in the early hours of this morning after the fire in the basement caused the power to fail.

Members of the public are being advised to take a cab to hospital if they can or get a lift from a friend or family member, although the LAS insisted the fire had not affected response times.

No one was injured and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
