Another Briton held in Faliraki

Another Briton has been arrested for indecent behaviour at the Greek island holiday resort of Faliraki, the Foreign Office said today.

Steven Ireland remains in custody as two other Britons, who faced jail sentences for stripping in public, were free to fly home from Rhodes yesterday after paying their fines.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said today that Mr Ireland, reportedly from Essex, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with indecent behaviour, believed to be dropping his trousers.

He appeared before magistrates yesterday and was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment or a fine. It is understood he is arranging to pay the fine, the spokeswoman said.

The other two Britons were released by Greek authorities as a meeting was cancelled between tour operators and local authorities to discuss the behaviour of British holidaymakers.

The crackdown by Greek authorities began after a holidaymaker was stabbed to
death in a brawl and holiday reps were caught performing sex acts in public.

Since then five holiday reps from England have been arrested for encouraging illegal pub crawls but later released. Their employers have said they will keep their jobs.

Earlier this month, 29-year-old Matthew Benney died after being hit by a bin truck in the resort and Greek authorities are investigating claims he may have run under the truck for a bet.
