Aussie deal Thornton swansong?

JOHN Thornton, Goldman Sachs' co-president who is retiring to teach in Beijing, is expected to sign a deal in the next few days to take a stake in JB Were, Australia's largest independent stockbroker. Goldman is expected to buy almost 50% of the 163-year-old partnership. The deal has been criticised for perceived cultural clashes.
