Award-winning Standard overtakes heavyweight rivals

It's a must-read: our Get London Reading campaign and high-quality news coverage have helped the Standard to gain a further 120,000 readers this year
12 April 2012

The London Evening Standard is now read by more people than the Daily Telegraph, the Times and the Guardian on weekdays.

Almost 1.6 million read the Standard, according to new figures from the authoritative National Readership Survey which cover the 12 months to September.

NRS data shows 120,000 extra readers have flocked to the paper in the past year, attracted by its award-winning mix of breaking news, incisive comment and campaigns for the Dispossessed and Get London Reading.

The figures also show that the Standard has more upmarket readers in London than any national newspaper.

The Standard circulates more than 700,000 copies a day and has won the London Press Club's daily newspaper of the year award, the British Press Awards campaign of the year and Editorial Intelligence's chairman's award.

Our Get London Reading campaign, which sends reading volunteers into schools to help struggling pupils, has been backed by the Government and Mayor Boris Johnson, and could become a blueprint for improving literacy across Europe.
