BA manager ‘swore at passenger in Heathrow Terminal 4’

12 April 2012

A British Airways manager described an irate passenger she confronted in Heathrow's Terminal 4 as a "piece of s**t", a tribunal was told.

The exchange led to the BA employee being demoted. But customer services duty manager Millie Jhalli claimed she was racially abused during the passenger's "ground rage".

Ms Jhalli was demoted to senior customer service agent, a position she still holds.

The employment tribunal in Reading heard yesterday that Ms Jhalli regarded the move as an effective dismissal.

She is suing BA for unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal and racial discrimination following the confrontation in June 2008.

She said she was racially abused by the passenger who was due to fly on an overbooked flight.

She said: "I was trying to pacify the customer when I was told that people like you are the lowest of the low' and you are dirt.' She then started imitating my name with an Indian accent."

Ms Jhalli, of Stanwell Village, denies insulting the passenger. The hearing continues.
