For once David Beckham should not be the centre of attention - but, chances are, he will steal the show anyway.

Real Madrid's £25million signing is giving the best man's speech when his friend and sports agent Dave Gardner marries former soap star Davinia Taylor at the weekend.

Following a church wedding in Chelford, Cheshire, a lavish reception will be held at the bride's family estate nearby.

Given that her father Alan Murphy is the £165million paper mill owner known as 'the toilet roll king of Merseyside', no expense will be spared. Fittingly, a smattering of celebrities from the worlds of showbiz and football are invited to help the couple celebrate.

But the day could turn out like an episode of Footballers'Wives, given the tangled relationships of some of the guests.

Starting with the top table, Beckham once kissed the bridesmaid - Atomic Kitten singer Jenny Frost.

Their fleeting romance blossomed when he was 17 and she was just 14.

It is said Beckham's wife Victoria - who will also be there - is still seething that Frost once told an interviewer Becks lacked kissing and conversational skills.

Meanwhile, Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has been snubbed from the guest list after dumping the groom's sister, Emma, for Gardner's former fiancèe, Stacey Cook.

To thicken the plot, the bride is an old flame of Giggsy's and they used to double-date with Gardner and Cook. A friend said: 'Becks is very pally with Dave Gardner. They go out together a lot and he didn't enjoy seeing his mate getting upset about Ryan's behaviour. Posh feels for Dave and Emma too.'
