Blinded shopkeeper: teenagers seized

Charles Begley12 April 2012

Two teenagers have been arrested after the attack which left an Asian shopkeeper blind in one eye.

Scotland Yard said today that a 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old youth are being questioned in connection with the robbery in Norbury on Good Friday.

Abdul Sattar, 35, was attacked when he chased a youth out of his London Road store after he stole several bottles of Bacardi Breezer.

When he caught up with him 200 yards along the road, he was stabbed in the right eye and thigh with a broken bottle. Despite emergency treatment at St George's Hospital, he lost the sight in his right eye.

Scotland Yard said Mr Sattar was "devastated" by the severity of the attack and his injuries. The two teenagers were arrested at 6.30pm yesterday and taken to Croydon police station for questioning.
