Buckingham Palace sees record visitor numbers

12 April 2012

Buckingham Palace recorded its highest number of visitors for 16 years with more than 413,000 taking advantage of this summer's opening.

Alongside an exhibition charting the Queen's year, the new garden café is thought to have proved an extra draw this year. It served 46,000 cups of tea in eight weeks. The record number of visitors is 420,000 in 1994.

Jonathan Marsden, director of the Royal Collection, said: "We are delighted that the number of people choosing to visit Buckingham Palace has continued to grow year on year."
