Businessman's claim to be JFK's lovechild shot down by own family

12 April 2012

A businessman who claimed he was the secret love-child of former US president John F Kennedy has been called a fraud by his own family.

Jack Worthington,46, claimed he was the result of a fling between his Texan mother and the US president in 1961.

But members of his family came forward last night to rubbish his claims and expose him as a fantasist.

The statement said his mother, Mary Evelyn Worthington, had never even met JFK, let alone had an affair with him.

It went on to say Worthington had "fabricated" details of a tryst between his mother and the president and that they had been introduced by president Lyndon Johnson.

Worthington, who lives in Vancouver, Canada, bore an uncanny resemblance to JFK, who was assassinated in 1963.

He claimed he was born two years before JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

The president was a known womaniser who had affairs with Marilyn Monroe and actress Angie Dickinson.

Explaining his decision to reveal his true identity, Worthington said:"It's simply a profound duty I feel to do the right thing."

He claimed his mother told him about the affair shortly before his father died, aged 69.

Worthington gave few details about the alleged affair between his mother and JFK other than to say they were introduced by Lyndon Johnson.

He came forward after reports surfaced in the Canadian media that Vanity Fair magazine had been investigating his claims for 18 months.

Worthington said he wanted the Kennedy family to agree to a DNA test to establish if JFK was his father.

Last night, Vanity Fair issued a statement to shatter his claims.

It followed repeated attempts by the magazine to talk with Evelyn Worthington.

The statement read: "It is our understanding that Jack R Worthington Jr has made the statement that he is the son of John F Kennedy and that his mother, Mary Evelyn Worthington, was introduced to President Kennedy by Lyndon B Johnson.

"It is the position of the family that the above statements are unequivocally false and have been fabricated by Jack R Worthington Jr for reasons unknown to his family.

"Mary Evelyn Worthington has never met John F Kennedy, nor any other member of the Kennedy family.

"Further, Mary Evelyn Worthington has never met Lyndon B Johnson. Jack R Worthington Jr is the natural born son of Jack R. Worthington Sr and Mary Evelyn Worthington.

"Mary Evelyn Worthington has never had any conversation with Jack R Worthington Jr concerning this subject."

Vanity Fair was given the name of Worthington while interviewing Mark Felt, the former high-ranking FBI official who was unmasked as Deep Throat, the mystery source who helped Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein bring down the Nixon administration in the Watergate scandal.

Felt told editors at the magazine that there had been rumours of a secret JFK love-child.

Last night, three-times-married Worthington was unavailable for comment.

He recently moved to Canada from Houston, Texas, where he worked as an investment banker.
