Caudwell rings up record numbers

13 April 2012

COLOURFUL Phones 4u tycoon John Caudwell has cemented his position as the UK's mobile phones king.

Sales at his privately-owned Caudwell Group soared last year from £1.4bn to £2.04bn, while profits rose from £22.6m to £30.4m.

He expects this year's revenue to hit £2.3bn, despite selling his mobile billing side Singlepoint to Vodafone for £405m.

His biggest rival is Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone, who rung up sales in the year to last March of £1.8bn and profits of £34.5m.

But Caudwell, who drives a £250,000 Bentley and banned staff from sending internal emails, wants to move away from mobiles as he thinks the market is saturated.
