City advisers revealed

THE key City financiers who have guided the Government's bank rescue plan were named today.

Among the string of outsiders who have been hired by Alistair Darling to help shape the numbers on his balance sheet as he prepares to present his second Budget are employees of Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse and Citigroup.

The Credit Suisse team is headed by James Leigh-Pemberton, the bank's chief executive and the son of Sir Robin Leigh-Pemberton (now Lord Kingsdown), the former Governor of the Bank of England. It also includes Sebastian Grigg, a contemporary of David Cameron at Oxford.

Tadhg Flood, who advised Barclays on its failed bid for ABN Amro, is part of the Deutsche Bank team working with the Treasury.

It is believed that Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank have already taken £60 million in return for their advice.
