Costain wins Northern Iraq deal

CONSTRUCTION group Costain has won a multi-million pound deal to manage the reconstruction effort in the Kurdish region of Northern Iraq.

It initially expects to carry out £15m of healthcare, water and transport infrastructure work after signing a memo of understanding with Kurdish ruler Massoud Barzani.

Chief executive Stuart Doughty said: 'We have been quietly working away in Northern Iraq for a while now. We will be managing Barzani's capital programme and his master plan.'

Pre-tax profits rose 42% to £16.1m on turnover up 20% at £650.2m.
