Dancer sues airline over 'disaster movie' flight

Constant pain: Cecilia Gotborg has to ask choreographers to change routines

A West End dancer is suing an airline after suffering a career-threatening neck injury when her plane plunged hundreds of feet.

Cecilia Gotborg, 29, who has performed on stage in shows such as We Will Rock You and Hair, says she is still in pain almost a year later and has to ask choreographers to change routines and movements and struggles with basic training.

Ms Gotborg, who is Swedish but lives in London, was flying from Heathrow to Los Angeles with a friend in May last year when the United Airlines Boeing 777 ran into difficulties.

The dancer said: "All of a sudden the plane started to drop and passengers were thrown across the cabin and to the floor with their belongings. Everyone managed to get seated and were starting to calm down when the plane dropped again for a few seconds. We were all holding hands and terrified, it was like being in a disaster movie."

The flight was diverted to Montreal, where six seriously injured passengers were taken off the aircraft.

Ms Gotborg said: "The next day though I began to feel serious pain. If the problems I've suffered on the flight are going to ruin the dream job I've wanted to do since I was a little girl, I want some idea of how this happened."

A United Airlines spokesman said the incident was being investigated.
